Terms of use

What these terms cover
These terms cover this website and the free install keys issued from it. They do not govern the Coil software. Coil is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3, and that licence is the agreement that matters for the code. Nothing on this page adds a restriction to it. Where this page and the licence disagree about the software, the licence wins.
The software is provided as is
Coil comes with no warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, as stated in the licence. You are responsible for running it, backing it up, and for the professional consequences of anything you do with it.
Coil is not a lawyer, an accountant or a compliance product
Coil records trust transactions, produces reconciliations, calendars deadlines and generates documents. It does none of those things on your behalf and it does not know your jurisdiction's rules. Bar requirements for trust accounting, retention, deadline calculation, advertising and electronic signatures differ by state and change. Reviewing what Coil produces, and meeting those requirements, remains your responsibility as the lawyer.
Install keys
An install key is free, is derived from the email address you gave, and is meant for one firm. It is not a licence: the AGPL already gives you the right to run the software. The key exists so we know who is running Coil and can reach you if something breaks. Do not publish yours. We may decline to issue a key, and we may stop verifying one that is being used to abuse the endpoint.
The beta
Coil is in beta. Features change, data models change, and something may break. Hosted beta instances cost nothing today. When the beta ends, hosted pricing will be published as one number and beta firms will be told before it applies to them. Self-hosting is free today; we are not promising a price for all time, and the AGPL means the build you hold stays yours either way.
Using this website
Do not attempt to break, overload or probe this site, the forms or the key endpoint. Automated submissions are rate limited and scored. Everything else here is ordinary: read it, quote it, link to it.
Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses arising from this website, the install keys, or the software. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited.
